Prices of flowers at Dangwa triple a day before Valentine's Day 2022

The prices of flowers at the Dangwa flower market in Manila have gone up by as much as three times on Sunday morning, a day before Valentine's Day.

Local roses sourced from Baguio for instance, go for P250 to P300 per piece, and P1,100 for a round bouquet, according to a report by Sam Nielsen on Super Radyo dzBB.

The prices however are only for Sunday morning. Prices are expected to go up further by Sunday noon, and more so on Monday, Valentine's Day due to demand.

Flower vendor Bernadette said they are expecting the price of a round bouquet of local roses to reach up to P1,500 to P1,800 on Monday, Valentine's Day.

Bernadette said it is only this year that flower vendors are starting to recover after losses incurred last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She encouraged those who want to save money to buy flowers on Sunday or postpone buying to Tuesday, February 15, when prices are expected to go down.

"Sumisimbolo sa pag-ibig. Mas naa-appreciate ng babae kung may bulaklak," Bernadette said when asked why flowers are in demand during Valentine season.

Aside from roses, sunflowers are also in demand at Dangwa.

Meanwhile, at Farmers Garden in Quezon City, flower stall workers were busy making floral arrangements while sales were still slow before dawn on Sunday, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

Floral bouquets here are selling from P400 to P2,500 on Sunday morning.

Flower vendor Jinky said sales are expected to perk up on Sunday night until Monday.

Jinky also said they are currently busy fulfilling the advance orders made by politicians as gifts for their staff. —KG, GMA News
