DOE: Report fuel stations selling oil products above fixed ranges

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

The Department of Energy (DOE) on Wednesday called on the motoring public to bring to its attention fuel refilling stations that sell petroleum products above its monitored price ranges.

“If you see any price that’s so high please report it to the Department of Energy,” Energy Undersecretary Gerardo Erguiza Jr. said at a virtual press conference.

For his part, DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad said the prices of diesel nationwide range from P52 per liter to P65 per liter, gasoline prices range between P60 to P83 per liter, and kerosene range from P61 to P68 per liter.

“If it goes above that range then… in that case we will check immediately,” Erguiza said, noting that the DOE will not allow profiteers taking advantage of the oil price situation.

Prices have been hiked for the ninth straight week and have only followed an upward movement so far this year.

Earlier, the DOE earlier said prices are expected to increase further in the coming weeks, citing the limited output and the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Russia, a major exporter.

Latest Energy department data show that year-to-date adjustments stand at a total net increase of P7.95 per liter for gasoline, P10.20 per liter for diesel, and P9.10 per liter for kerosene.

Data from the same agency indicate that diesel prices in Metro Manila range from P51.65 per liter (Quezon City) to P68.94 per liter (Taguig City); and gasoline prices from P56.15 (Caloocan City) to P80.05  (Muntinlupa City) as of February 22, 2022.

Economic managers last week said they are closely monitoring the factors impacting domestic oil prices, with the government preparing some P2.5 billion for fuel subsidies of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers. —LBG, GMA News
