DA mulls imposing SRP on chicken

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Saturday said it is studying the possibility of imposing a suggested retail price on chicken meat to arrest any undue price hike on the commodity amid the skyrocketing fuel prices.

When asked if the DA will impose an SRP on chicken meat, DA spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes said, “Pinag-aaralan pa ‘yan (It’s being studied).”

The price of both chicken and pork increased by P10 per kilogram in Trabajo Market in Sampaloc, Manila, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB.

With this, Reyes appealed to market vendors not to increase prices too much.

“Pakiusap naman natin ay ‘yung karagdagang presyo naman ay ‘wag naman masyado kataasan dahil nga sana ay i-proportionate sa taas ng presyo ng gasolina,” he said.

(Our appeal is that the increase in prices should not be too much. They should make it proportionate to the increase in the price of gasoline.)

“Sinasabi natin tataas ang presyo pero ‘wag naman ganu'n kalaki,” he added.

(We expect prices to increase, but not that much.)

Prices of petroleum products have increased for 11 consecutive weeks since the beginning of the year, bringing the year-to-date adjustments for diesel at a net increase of P30.65 per liter, gasoline at P20.35 per liter, and kerosene at P24.90 per liter.

The government released fuel subsidies for both public transportation and agriculture sectors to cushion any inflationary impact of the rising fuel prices. —KG, GMA News
