BOC seizes P328K worth of suspected kush in shipment labeled tea

Authorities seized more than P328,000 worth of suspected kush, a type of marijuana, in a shipment labeled “Tea French Press, made Out of Tree Leaves” from Nashville, Tennessee, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Thursday.

The package was confiscated by the BOC-Port of Clark, the BOC Anti-illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), Enforcement Security Service (ESS), BOC Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), X-ray Inspection Project (XIP), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

During the inspection on April 22, authorities discovered two packs of green leaves containing 253 grams of kush with a street value amounting to P328,900.

“The CAIDTF conducted K9 sweeping and a field testing, which yielded positive result for the presence of Marijuana. Representative samples were then taken and turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis. The results of the analysis confirmed that said leaves are indeed Kush (Cannabis) strains containing Tetrahydrocannabinol/Marijuana,” the BOC said.

The consignees of the package were arrested in a controlled delivery operation in Muntinlupa City on May 2.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued by District Collector Alexandra Lumontad against the subject shipment for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
