PCCI to submit policy resolutions to Marcos

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) is crafting a set of resolutions that the business community wants the Marcos administration to implement to steer the country’s economic recovery from the pandemic.

At a press briefing in Manila on Wednesday, PCCI president George Barcelon said the business group will present to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the set of resolutions during the closing ceremony of the 48th Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&E), which will be held on October 19 to 20 at the Manila Hotel.

The PCCI said that Marcos will be the concluding guest of honor and speaker, while Vice President Sara Duterte will speak at the opening ceremony.

Barcelon said the group hopes the set of resolutions—which were “culminated in the past four months” following a series of dialogues all over the country with their members—will be adopted by the President and implemented by his Cabinet secretaries.

According to Ferdinand Ferrer, vice president of the PCCI, the set of policy resolutions that will be submitted to Marcos "captures the collective aspirations and expectations of the Philippine business community [toward] the new administration as it steers the direction of the Philippine economy rebounding from the pandemic."

“The resolutions cover a wide range of issues from achieving food security, transparent and affordable health care, employment generation, globally-competitive education and training standards, strengthened national security, reliable and competitive digitalization, climate change resilient and environmental-friendly policies, affordable power, safe and efficient transportation, and an outward and forward-looking trade policy,” Ferrer said.

Barcelon said the following issues will be tackled during the PBC&E:

  • Strengthening fiscal and financial resilience and inflation
  • Allowing the private sector to participate in the Build Better More (BBM) projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme
  • Food security by increasing the supply of various agricultural products
  • Cost of energy and electricity
  • Simplifying business processes and licensing systems

Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno and National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan will also discuss business prospects and the administration’s priorities.

“The business community is excited to hear from our President [about] his vision and programs to steer our country toward a higher growth trajectory, and we, in the private sector, will be the government’s partner in achieving this vision,” Ferrer said.  — VBL, GMA News
