The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) logged around 125,000 passengers per day this December - the peak season for air travel.

At Friday's public briefing, MIAA Senior Assistant General Manager Bryan Co said the airports are currently in the middle of the peak of what they anticipated for this month.

“Nakakapagtala na po tayo ng around 125,000 passengers per day kung ikukumpara natin ito noong November usually nasa 100,000 passengers per day lang po tayo and we expect this week starting last Monday. Talagang tuloy tuloy ang pagtataas ng ating mga number of passengers that are using our airports,” Co said.

(We recorded around 125,000 passengers per day. If we compare it to November, usually we are only around 100,000 passengers per day and we expected this starting last Monday. The number of passengers that are using our airports will continue to increase.)

Co said most of these passengers arrived from other countries including the United States, Canada, and the Middle East.

The MIAA official added that they are recording a lot of passenger traffic compared to the past two years when the country restricted borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that passenger traffic this year is 95% of the pre-COVID levels.

Co said they expect that around 3.2 to 3.5 million passengers will use NAIA terminals by the end of December.

“Bale what we expect po talaga is this kind of level at around 125,000 passengers will continue until at least the end of this year and then ang mangyayari po dyan magre-reverse naman ang flow pag-January karamihan naman po ay papalabas naman ng Pilipinas dahil tapos na sila mag Pasko sa ating bansa,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the MIAA had coordinated with different agencies to prepare for the peak season.

He said that they made sure that there was enough manpower and equipment to prevent flight delays and cancellations.

“Nakipagugnayan po tayo sa kanila over the past few weeks and months upang paghandaan natin ito talagang peak season natin this December 2022 so we had to make sure they have enough manpower and serviceable equipment in place upang ma-avoid natin ang delays at cancellation,” he added.
