BIR tops year earlier collections, but misses September goal
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Monday reported collecting P71.04 billion in September, topping its year-earlier numbers by P4.49 billion or 6.75 percent but missing its P73.-billion target for September 2012. The September collections brought the bureau’s nine-month tax-take to P772.47 billion, up by 12.56 percent year-on-year, said BIR Commissioner Kim Henares. The collections as of end-September accounted for 72 percent of the BIR’s P1.066 trillion target for the year. Thus, the BIR needs to raise an average of P97 billion a month from October to December to meet is full year goal. Despite the odds stacked against the BIR in meeting its collection goals, Henares said the bureau would strive to achieve its target by vigorously proceeding with its anti-tax evasion and improved tax administration efforts in the remaining months of 2012. — VS, GMA News
