HK-based Pinoy artists open art exhibit

Sixteen Filipino artists based in Hong Kong have opened an art exhibit expressing their thoughts of life in the Philippines and Hong Kong. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Haraya Visual and Media Arts Society and the Philippine Arts and Cultural Society in Hong Kong were behind the exhibit. An article on the DFA website (www.dfa.gov.ph) said the visual arts showcase entitled, “Kulay, Kultura, Kalawili (Color, Culture and Harmony)" started Aug. 13 at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Cultural Center. The exhibit runs until August 29 and was voted as “Pick of the Week" among the cultural shows in the South China Morning Post’s Sunday Review Magazine, the DFA said. Featured in the exhibit were installation media art, photographs, digital drawings, collage, contemporary cross media, mural paintings, sculptures and video art. The artists in the exhibition included Noel De Guzman, Bobit Segismundo, Joel Ferraris, Hari Lualhati, Ben Guia, Aldrin Monsod, Dani Packer, Charito Helgason, Rene Caintic, Martin Megino, Manuel Rubio, Rodolfo “Jun" Canete, Jun Cambel, Edgar Cajayon Tapan, and Emilio “Boyet" Rivera III. Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Claro Cristobal, in his keynote address at the exhibit's opening, extolled the efforts of the Filipino artists to bring the landmark exhibit into fruition. "The exhibit marks the first time that the Hong Kong Government has supported Filipino visual artists in Hong Kong," the DFA said. Cristobal challenged these artists to collaborate with their counterparts in the Southeast Asian region to introduce Hong Kong residents to their distinctive culture and mindset. Present at the opening ceremonies were Tang Hoi-Chiu, Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the Consuls General of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar. - GMANews.TV
