Aquino leads oath-taking of new Solicitor General, 100 other appointees

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on Monday led the oath-taking of Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza, Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Jessie Dellosa and at least a hundred more appointees in the military, police, and different government agencies.   Jardeleza was appointed early this month to take over the post left by Jose Anselmo Cadiz who resigned to go back to private practice.   Only in July 2011, Aquino named Jardeleza as the new deputy Ombudsman for Luzon to replace Mark Jalandoni who resigned after charges of usurpation of official function and authority were filed against him.                                                                              Jardeleza, a graduate of the University of the Philippines and Harvard Law School, served as corporate secretary, counsel, and senior vice president of San Miguel Corp. and its various subsidiaries from 1986 until he retired last 2010.   He also served as non-executive director of Del Monte Pacific Ltd. and corporate counsel of Cosmos Bottling Inc.   Jardeleza was also a former partner at the Angara, Concepcion, Cruz, Regala, and Abello Law Office (ACCRA). Concerns about Jardeleza's appintment   Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)'s National Secretariat for Social Action voiced concerns about the appointment of Jardeleza as the new solicitor general for his alleged close ties with Aquino’s uncle, Eduardo Cojuangco.   The group fears that Jardeleza’s appointment could spell "disaster" to the Hacienda Luisita case and coco levy cases.   Meanwhile, Mamba is a former representative of Cagayan and a member of Liberal Party. He served from July 1995 until 1998 and was again elected to the House in 2001.   In November 2011, Mamba was appointed as presidential legislative liaison office (PLLO) chief.   Dellosa, on the other hand, was appointed as AFP chief last December replacing retired military chief Eduardo Oban Jr.                    The others who took their oath of office included:

  • Roberto Garcia – administrator, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority
  • Anne Marie Gordon – member, SBMA board of directors
  • Joven Reyes – acting member, SBMA board of directors
  • Kaye Tinga – acting member, Tourism Promotions Board board of directors
  • Felix William Fuentebella – deputy secretary general, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council
