6,096 new Philippine COVID-19 infections logged; active cases at 52,570


The Philippines reported 6,096 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the country's total tally to 1,397,992.

This is the fourth straight day when more than 6,000 cases were reported.

The Department of Health said the new infections brought the number of active cases in the country to 52,570, of which 89.5% were mild, 5.6% were asymptomatic, 2% were severe, and 1.4% were in critical condition.

Total recoveries also climbed to 1,321,050 after 6,912 more people defeated the disease.

The death toll, meanwhile, rose to 24,372 with 128 new fatalities.

The DOH said 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 69 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH also said three laboratories unable to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the country's intensive care unit beds and 37% of the mechanical ventilators were utilized.

In the National Capital Region, 45% of the ICU beds and 32% of the ventilators were in use. — DVM, GMA News
