Duterte hits ‘posturing’ senators in wake of DOH controversy

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday criticized senators whom he said were only "posturing" when conducting Senate investigations on alleged government anomalies.

In his second Talk to the People over the week, Duterte said it was the reason he had been conducting televised briefings with Cabinet officials.

"That's the reason for this program. It keeps people posted on the taxes that they pay and we inform you," Duterte said.

"'Wag kayong maniwala sa mga imbestigasyon, imbestigasyon. Kita ninyo, walang nangyari puro lang, 'We will investigate,'" he added.

This comes after Senate and House of Representatives launched a probe into the Department of Health's spending of pandemic response funds.

In one of the inquiries, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III became emotional, and claimed that COA's findings destroyed the agency's morale.

He accused some senators of "posturing."

"May ibang senador diyan, mayroon talagang masabi. After investigation of one or two days of hearing, wala na. Walang rekomendasyon,  walang na-demanda, walang na-preso. Puro pustura lang," Duterte said.

"Kaya kayong mga magiging senador...  Avoid that," he added.

The Senate blue ribbon committee led by Senator Richard Gordon has been investigating COA report on the DOH expenditures during the pandemic. —NB, GMA News
