Investigators keep watch over 'person of interest' in Serendra blast

Investigators are keeping watch over a tenant who is now considered a "person of interest" in the wake of the deadly blast at the Two Serendra condominium in Taguig City last Friday. The investigators are waiting to interview Angelito San Juan as soon as he is able to talk, Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II said Monday.

San Juan has been tagged a "person of interest," meaning his testimony could be crucial to the investigation. A person of interest is not considered a suspect at this time.

Three people were killed while five were injured in the blast at Two Serendra last Friday.

Investigators are now checking the possibility of a gas leak, as the gas system in the condominium is centralized.

He added this was why teams from the University of the Philippines Engineering School had also been asked to help in the probe.

Also, Roxas noted at least one tenant had complained of difficulty breathing, but it was still not clear if this was due to a power outage or to a gas leak.

On the other hand, he said the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is analyzing closed-circuit television footage of the corridors and lobby.

Roxas said they expect to come out with a report on the incident this week. —KG/HS, GMA News
