Two days before Christmas, fires hit Parañaque, Mandaluyong

The week is off to a fiery start in two cities in Metro Manila, with a predawn warehouse fire lasting more than seven hours in Parañaque City and another fire hitting a residential area in Mandaluyong City.

No one was initially reported injured in both fires, which came two days before Christmas.

In Mandaluyong City, dzBB's Glen Juego reported a fire hit a residential area along Martinez Street and reached the second alarm.

The fire was placed under control after 9 a.m., according to an updated report.

The Mandaluyong City fire came hours after another fire hit a two-story residential structure and killed four people.

In Parañaque City, a of undetermined origin razed at least three warehouses and continued to rage after more than seven hours, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

The fire reached Task Force Alpha before dawn and was at Task Force Bravo as of 7:30 a.m., the report said.

Firefighters had to use aerial ladders to fight the fire at a logistics building, one of the structures affected by the fire.

An earlier report by dzBB's Paulo Santos said the fire started at the boundary of Barangays Santo Niño and Tambo shortly afte 1 a.m.

Firefighters cited initial information indicating the warehouses contained items being sold at department stores, including glassware.

Many residents in nearby Barangay Tambo panicked as they tried to save their belongings for fear the fire would reach their homes.

The dzBB report said many of the residents in Tambo village already fled their homes and were out on the streets before the fire reached Task Force Alpha. — RSJ, GMA News
