Deniece's granduncle to model-stylist: Please surrender

Deniece Cornejo's granduncle has called on the model-stylist to surrender and face a serious illegal detention case filed against her.

“My dear Deniece, I'm appealing to you as your uncle. Please surrender. Don't wait, surrender,” Rod Cornejo, said in an exclusive interview on GMA's “24-Oras”  aired Saturday evening.

He said that Deniece is still communicating with him has not told him where she is.

“I know what you're going through, and gusto ko malaman mo na ako'y naniniwala sayo,” the elder Cornejo said.

“'Yung mga sinabi mo sa akin na nangyari sa iyo tinatanggap ko na yan ang katotohanan, ngunit hindi rin tama na nagtatago ka sa batas. Para sa ikabubuti mo, sumuko ka na,” he added.

He also appealed to the public to stop lambasting Deniece.

“Imbis na tayo ay maghusga at manira at matuwa sa nangyayari sa kanila, isipin natin na tao rin sila at may mga karapatan,” he said.

Earlier, the National Bureau of Investigation urged Cornejo and the others facing serious illegal detention charges filed by actor-comedian Vhong Navarro to come out and surrender.

“Being a fugitive doesn't necessarily mean that you're already convicted. If you are under arrest and there's a hearing, you are given due process in court,” NBI Deputy Director Rafael Ragos explained.

Meanwhile, Cedric Lee and Zimmer Raz, who are among those charged and who were earlier arrested in a town in Eastern Samar, are currently at a NBI detention facility. The hearing for their bail petition will be held on May 6.

Navarro has accused Lee and others of beating him up at the Taguig City condominium unit where Cornejo was staying on Jan. 22. Lee initially said he and others with him caught Navarro trying to rape Cornejo.

Cornejo has accused Navarro of rape, but the Justice department has junked her complaint saying there was no probable cause to charge the actor-comedian. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
