Overflowing septic tank causes a stink at NAIA-1

Already suffering a reputation as one of the world's worst airports, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 literally stank Saturday after a septic tank there overflowed.

The incident caused a minor flood at the NAIA-1's departure area before noon Saturday, GMA News stringer Ariel Fernandez reported.

A photo by Fernandez posted on radio dzBB's Twitter account showed the flood near the departure area.

NAIA authorities are working on fixing the situation, a separate dzBB report said.

NAIA-1 has been tagged as among the world's worst airports with passengers complaining about the poor state of its facilities.

Last April, President Benigno Aquino III himself apologized for the air-conditioning problem at the NAIA-1, blaming the matter on the government's procurement system.

He said the contract to supply new air conditioners for the 30-year-old Terminal 1 was awarded in November last year but the air conditioners will only be delivered in August this year.

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) issued its own apology for the problems of congestion and heat at NAIA-1. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
