Vhong Navarro won’t settle cases vs. Deniece, Cedric – lawyer

The camp of actor and television host Vhong Navarro has insisted that they will not settle in the legal battles he has with model Deniece Cornejo, businessman Cedric Lee, and several others, a television report said Tuesday.

A report on GMA News TV's News to Go quoted Navarro's legal counsel, lawyer Alma Mallonga, as saying that that her client only showed up at the Taguig Regional Trial Court on Monday because he "respects" the process.

The actor did not attend the hearing, remaining only at the second floor of the building, Mallonga sai, adding that Navarro did not meet with Cornejo, Lee, and Zimmer Raz, who were present that day.

She also said Navarro will not let the cases end up in settlement, the same report added.

Navarro filed grave coercion charges against Cornejo, Lee, Raz, Lee's sister Bernice, and three others for the mauling incident on January 22, allegedly perpetrated by Lee's group.

Along with this, he also filed a serious illegal detention case against Lee's group before the Taguig City Regional Trial Court Branch 271.

On the other hand, Cornejo filed a rape complaint against Navarro, but it has been dismissed by the Department of Justice (DOJ). She is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

Lee, meanwhile, is kept at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility in Manila.

For his part, Cornejo and Lee's legal counsel, lawyer Howard Calleja, said Navarro not showing up at the mediation hearings was a sign of disrespect for the judiciary, the News To Go report said.

The actor has previously snubbed two mediation hearings, set on June 2 and July 7. The June hearing was reset last Monday.

According to the Taguig City Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) Branch 74, where the grave coercion case is pending, Navarro must still attend the hearing to signify his refusal to enter a settlement with the respondents. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/RSJ, GMA News
