Marikina placed under state of calamity


(Updated 3:50 p.m.) Marikina City was placed under a state of calamity Friday afternoon, in the wake of heavy rain and floods brought by Tropical Storm Mario (Fung-Wong).
 
The state of calamity seeks to facilitate relief efforts for the city, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

 
Several residents near Marikina River were earlier forcibly evacuated after the river's water level reached critical levels.
 
As of 2 p.m., the water level at the river was down to 19.8 meters but remained at critical level. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
