NBI takes on case of death of Cherry Pie Picache’s mom

The National Bureau of Investigation has started a parallel investigation into the killing of actress Cherry Pie Picache's mother, Zenaida Sison, GMA News' Emil Sumangil reported on "24 Oras."

A team from NBI-Death Investigation Division has already statements from some witnesses, including a couple interviewed by GMA News earlier.

The live-in partners were initially invited by police for questioning but eventually released. The NBI believes the their statements could help solve the case.

Special Investigator Joey Ajero said the victim's sibling filed a formal complaint before the NBI that triggered the bureau's parallel investigation.

Ajero said the NBI would focus on how the killers got into the victim's house and how they fled from the scene.

The NBI also requested from Barangay Paligsahan a copy of the closed-circuit television footage of the area.

Neighbors of the victim said that before dawn last Friday, amid the heavy rain, they heard the sound of dogs barking from the victim's house.

"Nagising ako quarter to one, maingay yung mga aso, parang nagwawala yung mga aso," said lawyer Alan Paguia, a neighbor of the victim.

As her murdered mother was cremated on Wednesday, actress Cherry Pie Picache asked the public for more prayers that the perpetrators of the gruesome crime will finally be caught.

Sison, 75, was found brutally killed in her house last Friday.

"Maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat ng dasal at lahat ng suportang pinakita ng maraming, maraming tao, lalo sa kasamahan ko sa industriya," she said.

"Please keep on praying justice will be served. Hindi kami nagmamadali, gusto namin kung sino man ang may kasalanan," she said. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
