Authorities on trail of thieves caught on CCTV in Manila and Quezon City

Thieves in separate incidents in Manila and Quezon City have the authorities hot on their trail after they were caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

In Manila, a barangay's CCTV setup helped a woman identify the man who broke into her house and took her valuables, GMA News' Susan Enriquez reported on "24 Oras."

Jacquelin Pones of Vigan Street in Sampaloc said she woke up Thursday to find her bag, money and mobile gadgets missing.

When she went to the barangay hall of Barangay 579 for assistance, the barangay personnel reviewed the CCTV footage and saw a man entering Pones' house.

Footage showed the man wearing a yellow shirt entering the alley leading to Pones' house not bringing anything - then exiting the house as if in a hurry, and carrying a bag.

Pones said she recognized the man as her neighbor, adding she was positive he took her belongings.

"Nang play ko at review namin nakita niya na-positive ang taong hinihinalaan niya," said barangay councilor Antonio Patricio.

Meanwhile, at Scout Lozano in Quezon City last Monday, a CCTV camera also caught two motorcycle-riding men snatch the valuables of four female students chatting near their house.

The footage showed the backrider getting off the motorcycle and walking toward the four - then snatching the mobile phone of one of them.

He then ran toward his waiting companion, but one of the victims got the plate number of the motorcycle. The Land Transportation Office is now tracing the vehicle's registration.

Investigation showed the suspects had tried to break into an office in the area before.
