PNP official to file charges vs. model Alyzza Agustin over ‘coding exemption’ issue

(Updated 5:39 p.m.) Police Chief Supt. Alexander Ignacio is set to file charges against the female model who shared on Facebook a calling card, purportedly from him, that she allegedly used to evade a coding violation.

In a text message to GMA News Online, Ignacio confirmed that he has been seeking legal help to determine the appropriate charges he can file against model Alyzza Agustin.

"Yes, that is true. I have been consulting with the PNP [Philippine National Police] Legal Service as well as the CIDG [Criminal Investigation and Detection Group] to determine appropriate charges I can file and if a PNP lawyer can represent me," he said.

When asked for the reason behind the filing of charges, Ignacio said: "I want to make it clear that I am not coddling her, nor do I personally know her."

He also emphasized that he does not tolerate such actions.

"Plus as I said, I will not tolerate any wrongdoings such as this which has besmirched my reputation and has caused much grief and anxiety on my wife and family," he added.

For his part, National Police spokesman Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor said the matter is entirely up to Ignacio.

"That is something personal for Gen. Ignacio, it's up to him if he will pursue charges," Mayor said.

"It's all up to him because he appears to be the victim. In the first place, it seems that the business card is fake and based on her apology, she said she does not personally know Gen. Ignacio," he added.

The controversy began after Agustin shared on Facebook a photo of a calling card, purportedly from Ignacio, that she allegedly used to evade a coding violation.

However, after the issue caused a firestorm over social media, Ignacio denied he knew the female model, saying he will not tolerate the use of his business card for unlawful purposes.

For her part, Agustin briefly apologized for her gaffe on Facebook.

However, she appeared to have deleted her apology on her Facebook account as of Wednesday morning. —KG/RSJ, GMA News
