Two infrastructure projects seen to ease traffic in Metro Manila

Infrastructure projects recently approved by the National Economic Development Authortiy (NEDA) Board will ease traffic jams  in Metro Manila, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said on Sunday.

In a briefing over state-run radio dzRB, Coloma said: "Noon pong nakaraang Biyernes ay nagpasa na sa NEDA ng mga proyekto na magpapabilis sa daloy ng trapiko sa iba’t ibang lugar dito sa Metro Manila."

The two projects are the P1.27-billion Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue/Makati Avenue-Paseo de Roxas Vehicle Underpass project and the P4.01-billion  Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project Phase IV.

The underpass project, that will be under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), involves the construction of a four-lane vehicle underpass. It's estimated implementation schedule is 2014 to 2016.

According to the NEDA website, it is aimed to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow along Sen. Gil Puyat avenue passing through intersections with Makati Avenue and Pase de Roxas.

The interchange construction project, on the other hand, seeks to address traffic congestion in major road intersections.

It involves the construction of three grade-separated interchanges at EDSA-North Avenue-West Avenue-Mindanao Avenue interchange; Circumferential Road 5 (C5)-Greenmeadows-Calle Industria-Eastwood interchange; and EDSA-Roosevelt Avenue-Congressional Avenue interchange.

The project, with an estimated implementation schedule of four years starting next year, will be financed through Official Development Assistance. It will be under DPWH, as well.

"Ang mahalaga po ay malaman ng ating mga mamamayan na tinutukoy na ‘yung problema ng traffic congestion at mayroon na pong kongkretong solusyon na uumpisahan na ng ating pamahalaan," Coloma said.
