NCR evacuees start going home after Ruby weakens

Families in Metro Manila who were brought to evacuation centers due to the threat of bad weather conditions from Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) began to go home Tuesday.

Several families in Metro Manila had been preemptively evacuated after state weather agency PAGASA indicated Ruby may affect Metro Manila.

In Manila, several evacuees at Del Pan in Tondo, Manila decided to go home Tuesday after learning Ruby had weakened, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

But in Quezon City, some 229 families of Barangay Bagong Silangan waited for the go-signal to decamp, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

Ruby devastated parts of Visayas after making its first landfall in Eastern Samar last weekend.

But it has since weakened into a tropical depression and made its fifth landfall early Tuesday. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Wednesday. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
