Mexican arrested, P6M worth of cocaine seized in Makati sting operation

A Mexican was arrested and some 2.5 kilos of cocaine — valued at around P6 million — were seized in a sting operation in Makati City Sunday afternoon.

The operation was conducted shortly after 2 p.m. in front of a restaurant near a hotel along Makati Avenue, Radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.

The operation involved the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the report said.

Police and PDEA agents suspect the Mexican is connected to the Sinaloa drug cartel, which is also believed to be behind 84 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) seized in Lipa City in late 2013.

Drug charges over the Lipa City bust were filed against four people — three of whom are Mexicans — believed connected to the Sinaloa cartel in February 2014.

A photo tweeted by dzBB's Villarosa showed the vehicle involved in the buy-bust operation on Sunday.

According to authorities, the suspect had been under surveillance for the past month, and that the cocaine was likely imported.

The suspect was brought to the PDEA headquarters and faces charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
