MRT-3 passengers start using beep cards

The early morning trial for the use of beep cards in the Metrorail Transit Line 3 was smooth as the mass transit line launched on Saturday the "tap and go system."

Personnel from the firm that got the concession to provide the beep cards assisted passengers at the vending machine areas at the MRT-3 Guadalupe Station.

"Issuance fee for each card costs P20 and the card can be loaded a minimum amount of P13 and P10,000 at the maximum," a vending machine assistant said, adding that the card can be used for four years.

A report on "News TV Live" quoted the Department of Transportation and Communications as saying that the beep cards can also be used in both LRT Lines 1 and 2.

Also, it said the new ticketing system is expected to solve the problem of passengers forming long queues at train stations, especially during rush hours.

The launching of the MRT-3  beep cards came after the complete transition to the "tap and go system" of the LRT 1 and 2.

AF Payments and Light Rail Manila Corp., the beep card concessionaire, had announced that the northbound direction of the LRT 1 will start implementing the new Automated Fare Collection System starting September 20.

Since August 5, all stations in LRT Lines have been using beep cards, and with the launching of the MRT3 beep cards this Saturday (October 3) all the light rail systems in Metro Manila are now using one ticketing system.
