Bus catches fire during EDSA rush hour

 

A Nova bus with a Fairview to Baclaran route went ablaze along the EDSA-Buendia Northbound section during the rush hour, a report from GMA's “24 Oras” said Tuesday.

 

The incident happened around 9:07 a.m. which caused heavy traffic and was then declared fireout at 9:20 a.m.

 

“Nasa harap po kami niyan ng bus tapos bigla na lang siya umusok tapos nangangamoy na po siya. Nagsabi po kami na parang may nasusunog tapos sabi ng driver baka nga,” passenger Mariel Pagayanan said.

 

“Bigla na lang nag apoy tas naglabasan na kami. Yung iba naman doon naglabasan sa bintana. Buti na lang pagka alis ng lahat doon umapoy ng malakas,” she added.

 

No one was hurt during the incident.

 

The driver identified as Celedonio Romeo Jr. said he tried to douse the fire with an extinguisher but it was too late.

 

Romeo also said the bus was in good condition and was recently inspected in their terminal.

 

Authorities are eyeing faulty electrical wiring as the possible cause of the incident. —Andrei Medina/JST, GMA News
