More contraband discovered in 21st Oplan Galugad in Bilibid

More than a kilo of alleged methamphetamine or “shabu” and firearms were seized Thursday by Bureau of Corrections personnel at the New Bilibid Prison, a report on Balitanghali on Thursday said.

Authorities investigated Building 5A of Quadrant 4 and discovered a red eco bag cramped in the ceiling. The bag contained three plastic bags of the illegal drugs. Incidentally, this is the area where Sputnik Gang is detained.

NBP Supt. Richard Schwarzkopf Jr., in an interview on Balitanghali, said this is the biggest lump of contraband since Oplan Galugad commenced last year.

The BuCor also recovered a .45 caliber gun, a 9-mm pistol and an improvised gun loaded with bullets.

The 21st operation of Oplan Galugad concluded with the demolition of Quadrant 2, which is where BuCor plans to erect more dormitories.

“Para mas mapakinabangan at malagyan ng mas nakararaming inmates,” Schwarzkopf said.

He also said they are planning to control the inflow of money in the prison. In this new policy, an inmate is allowed to have only P2,000 at the maximum.

A draft of the said policy is now set for approval.

Moreover, Schwarzkopf said security measures inside the prison are also expected to improve.

“In fact mayroon na tayong scanner, X-ray machine, metal detectors. Anytime this month, operational na ‘yun,” he said.

Although contraband like appliances have since been limited, Schwarzkopf said they had to have stricter measures on small items like cellphones and packets of drugs. —Kiersnerr Gerwin Tacadena/KG, GMA News
