2 Pasay City cops to face murder charges for killing drug suspect and his father

Two Pasay City-based police officers, who shot and killed a drug suspect and his father inside a police station, will face murder charges, according to the report of GMA's Sandra Aguinaldo on "Saksi."

According to the result of the investigation conducted by the Pasay City police office, the officers identified as PO2 Alipio Balo Jr. and PO1 Michael Tomas failed to prove that the killing of Jaypee and Renato Bertes was an act of self-defense.

It was last July 27 that Jaypee was arrested for his alleged involvement in the illegal drugs trade. He was accompanied by his father, Renato.

The recommendation, based on the police probe led by Pasay City Police Chief Insp. Rolando Baula into the shooting incident, was that "a case of murder defined and penalized under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Codebe filed against PO2 Alipio Balo Jr. and PO1 Michael Tomas."

"Their allegations could be appreciated during the full blown trial in Court," the report stated.

Aside from murder, an administrative case will be filed against Balo and Tomas for violating standard operating procedures. — BAP, GMA News
