Erap offers P100,000 reward for arrest of suspect in Quiapo road rage killing

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has offered a P100,000 reward for the arrest of the suspect in the killing of a biker following a road altercation in Quiapo district on Monday night.

“I’m giving P100,000 for any information that could lead to the arrest of (Vhon Martin) Tanto,” Estrada said in a statement Thursday.

“Delikado siya ‘pag nahuli siya... ‘pag lumaban siya, siguradong six feet under the ground siya."

“Of course, I’m appealing to him to surrender,” Estrada said. “But once he’s caught, he will be put behind bars, automatic, until he is sentenced… to death.”

Estrada admitted he made the offer after he got impatient over Tanto’s refusal to surrender to authorities despite the chance given to him by the Manila Police District on Wednesday.

The MPD then launched a manhunt operation against Tanto, an Army reservist who was identified by witnesses as the one who allegedly shot biker Mark Vincent Garalde to death.

The incident was captured by CCTV cameras posted along P. Casal Street, which showed Tanto, the Hyundai Eon driver, and Garalde having a fistfight before the shooting.

Garalde was killed on the spot after being shot five times, including in the face. A female bystander was also hit and is in critical condition in a nearby hospital.

Police, citing witnesses, said the altercation between Tanto and Garalde occurred after the suspect's Hyundai Eon hit the bicycle rider along the same street.

The vehicle has since been found by police in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya— Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
