Road rage killer tarnished image of reservists, says AFP

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday called out Vhon Martin Tanto, the Army reservist who was implicated in the shooting to death of a cyclist on Monday night.

"Since he was identified to be a reservist after that fatal road rage, he has been dragging not only the AFP but also the good name and reputation of the Reservist Force in the Army, Air Force, and the Navy," AFP Public Affairs Office chief Colonel Edgard Arevalo.

"This, the AFP cannot and will not tolerate. It will, as it did, exert all efforts and utilize its available resources to help arrest this individual labeled as 'very dangerous,'" he added.

Arevalo said the AFP took interest in the case after Tanto was identified to be an Army reservist.

AFP records, however, showed that Tanto was on inactive status and has been virtually delisted from the rolls for failure to report to his unit since ?January 2015.

Tanto is assigned to the 1301st Community Defense Center, National Capital Regional Community Defense Group of the Army Reserve Command based in Caloocan City.

He was arrested by the combined teams from the Army Intelligence and police personnel before Friday noon in Barangay Poblacion East in Milagros, Masbate.

Tanto will be facing murder and frustrated murder charges for the killing of biker Mark Vincent Garalde and the wounding of female bystander. —Virgil Lopez/NB, GMA News
