10 die in explosion at Parañaque City jail

At least 10 individuals have died after an explosion rocked the Parañaque City Jail on Thursday evening, GMA News' Mav Gonzales reported for "Saksi."

Based on initial information, two of the 10 dead individuals were Chinese inmates, according to a separate report filed by Luisito Santos for Super Radyo's dzBB.

Gonzales related in her Facebook Live video that ten inmates requested to talk to jail warden, Jail Supt. Gerald Bantag.

Parañaque Deputy Chief of Police Supt. Wilson Doromal said in a statement that the inmates wanted to discuss the issue on the transfer of detention cells.

He said the inmates were armed with a pistol, a balisong or fan knife while another carried with him a grenade.

Then, an explosion occurred inside the office that caused the death of 8 inmates while two inmates were declared Dead on Arrival at the Parañaque hospital.

Bantag, meanwhile, was injured in the blast.

The bomb squad and the Scene of the Crime Operatives are at the City Jail to conduct an investigation.

Officials have not yet divulge the names of the inmates killed in the incident.

Meanwhile, relatives of the inmates in Parañaque have gathered at the site.

Gonzales reported that the inmates were shouting their names to assure family members that they were not involved in the bombing incident. — BAP, GMA News
