Drug activities back in QC after suspension of police ops –police chief

Drug activities have resumed in Quezon City following the suspension of police operations against illegal drug groups, the city’s chief of police said Wednesday.

“We received reports na talagang nagbabalikan 'yung paggamit ng droga tsaka 'yung bentahan kasi alam nila na we are prevented now in engaging in drug operations,” Quezon City Police District director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said in a media forum.

Following the killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo allegedly by rogue policemen, President Rodrigo Duterte last month ordered the disbandment of all anti-drug units of the Philippine National Police.

Jee was taken from his home in Pampanga in October last year by policemen who accused him of involvement in illegal drug operations. He was killed inside Camp Crame on the same day he was abducted.

Despite the suspension, Eleazar said police still responded to illegal drug activities that were reported to them.

“[J]ust the same, nakapagresponde kami doon sa mga tao. May ongoing drug session, punta kami. Nakapag-aresto po kami,” he said.

Eleazar is hoping that Duterte would soon lift the suspension of the police anti-drug operations so they can prevent the total resurgence of illegal drug activities.

“Setback po ito. We are expecting talagang buhay na naman ulit 'yan kaya 'yun po ang aming tinututukan. We are hoping that this temporary suspension will be lifted very soon so that makabalik tayo,” he said. —KBK, GMA News
