Suspect in Ravena extortion undergoes inquest proceedings

The suspect who allegedly attempted to extort money from basketball star Kiefer Ravena underwent inquest proceedings on Friday days after he was arrested in an entrapment operation, Mark Zambrano reported on Balitanghali.

Kristoffer Monico Ng was charged with violating Article 294 or robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons pursuant to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

He was also charged with violating RA No. 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.

If successfully prosecuted, Ng can be incarcerated for 16 years and must pay P100,000 for the robbery charge, and for three to seven years and a penalty of P100,000 to P500,000 for the voyeurism charge.

Both offenses are bailable.

Ng denied the accusations, saying he never pressed Ravena to give him P50,000 in exchange for information on the person who allegedly spread the basketball star's intimate pictures on social media.

The PNP Cybercrime Division is trying to establish if Ng himself arein possession of the pictures or if a third party was involved as he alleged, though police are skeptical of his claim due to his extortion attempt.

Both Ravena, present during the inquest proceedings on Friday, and Ng declined to speak with media. — MDM, GMA News
