‘Akyat-kotse’ thieves target motorists stuck in traffic

Motorists stuck in traffic have recently been victimized by youthful criminals who reach into open car windows and unlocked doors to steal motorists' property, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras Weekend" reported on Sunday.

Such a method on an idling vehicle on EDSA was recorded on a dashboard camera last Friday.

Victim Maxine Perez had wound down the windows of her SUV because the air conditioner was broken.

While an accomplice distracted Perez on the driver's side, the thief reached into her car from the open passenger side window and grabbed her belongings.

Makati City's police force warned that such thefts usually take place at night or lunchtime.

Aaron Elago of the PCP-7 explained. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM/KVD, GMA News
