Jolina Magdangal, husband taken to hospital after vehicular crash

Actress-singer Jolina Magdangal and her husband Mark Escueta were taken to hospital early Monday morning after their SUV was rear-ended by a van along Quezon City's East Avenue.

According to the couple's driver, Orly Sebolino, they were on their way to the airport as Magdangal and her husband were going on vacation.

They had stopped for a traffic light in front of the Philippine Heart Center at around 1:30 a.m. when the van suddenly smashed into them.

The van collided with such force that the actress' SUV had its right rear-end smashed. The van's front end was equally crushed.

Sebolino said Magdangal had bruises maybe due to shattered glass, according to a report on Unang Balita by Jay Sabale on Monday.

Meanwhile, the van's driver, Peter Sevilla, was trapped inside the driver's side of the vehicle after the crash. He, too, was taken to hospital once freed.

According to one of Sevilla's passengers, Miriam Bondoc, they had driven all the way to Caloocan City from Batangas, and they were then on their way to Makati when they crashed into the actress' SUV.

Sevilla reportedly admitted he may have fallen asleep at the wheel of the van out of fatigue.

Bondoc said the driver Sevilla complained of numbness in his legs right after the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the incident. — DVM/KG/KVD, GMA News
