DoTr: Expect traffic slowdown on Quirino Highway due to MRT-7 construction

Motorists can expect a traffic slowdown on Quirino Highway starting on Monday due to the construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said over the weekend.

"The MRT-7 Project Traffic Management Task Force advises the riding public to expect traffic slowdown along Quirino Highway starting Monday due to the ongoing construction of the MRT Line 7," the DOTr said in an emailed statement on Sunday.

With the expected buildup of vehicles, the DOTr urged motorists to take alternate routes instead.

Those bound for the Quezon Memorial Circle from Caloocan or San Jose del Monte may use the following routes:

  • via Sampaguita Road to Maligaya Road
  • via Malaria Road to Maligaya Road
  • via Malanting Road to Maligaya Road

Meanwhile, those bound for Caloocan or San Jose del Monte from Quezon Memorial Circle may use the following routes:

  • via Regalado Highway to Ascencion
  • via Mindanao Avenue to Ascencion or Carida-Esperanza

To recall, transportation officials broke ground for the project in August 2016. It is expected to be completed in 2019.

The MRT-7 is a 22-kilometer rail transit system with 14 stations connecting North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.

Its stations will include North Avenue, Quezon City Memorial Circle, University Avenue, Tandang Sora, Don Antonio, Batasan, Manggahan, Doña Carmen, Regalado, Mindanao Avenue, Quirino, Sacred Heart, Tala, and San Jose Del Monte.

"The Task Force appeals to the general public for their patience, and to the drivers of both private and public vehicles for the full cooperation, in observing traffic rules and regulations to avoid further obstructions on the road while the construction is ongoing," the DOTr said. — Jon Viktor D.
