PNP identifies man wearing police shirt in viral post, to file charges

Charges are set to be filed against a man wearing a Philippine National Police athletic shirt and cap and the subject of a complaint in a viral social media post.

Taguig PNP has identified the man as Joseph Philip Lu Bautista, 36, single, Filipino-Chinese, a business consultant and resident of Taguig City.

Bautista admitted being the person in the traffic altercation incident which happened on Dec 27, 6 p.m. in Bonifacio Global City.

He also admitted he is not a police officer and he wore the PNP athletic shirt because "they were comfortable."

The female complainant went to the Taguig City Police Station on Friday afternoon and gave her statement on what really transpired.

Taguig PNP is now exerting efforts to contact the complainant so the appropriate case can be filed against Bautista.

While Bautista denied the accusations of the complainant, Taguig PNP will file a case of "Illegal Use of Uniform" under Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code (RA 3815) against him, with the PNP as the nominal complainant.

The PNP is currently observing Oplan Tamang Bihis for the proper wearing of uniforms and it has authorized distributors or providers of the same.

The police will also request the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to revoke the driver's license of Bautista and the possible cancellation of the registration of his car or non-renewal of the same after learning that the vehicle has police siren and stickers of different PNP Units  — a violation of PNP Standards. —KG/KBK, GMA News
