Big drop in QC crimes since Duterte took over —Eleazar

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said crime rate in the city has dropped by almost 50 percent since President Rodrigo Duterte was sworn into office.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said there has been a drop of 44.2 percent on eight focused crimes -- murder, homicide, robbery, theft, motorcycle theft, car theft, physical injury and rape -- comparing crime data of November 2014 to June 2016 and July 2016 to February 2018.

Eleazar said that since Duterte's assumption in July 2016 until February 2018, a total of 9,652 cases of the eight focused crimes have been recorded.

He said it was a big drop compared to the 17,305 crimes recorded from November 2014 to June 2016.

He said that despite the number of alleged vigilante killings during the time of Duterte, the number of murder incidence was much lower compared during the time of the previous administration.

Eleazar added that homicide cases recorded from July 2016 to February 2018 was only 65 compared to the 361 incident recorded from November 2014 to June 2016.

The police has been accused of summarily killing suspected drug suspects as part of the government's campaign against drugs, which has been repeatedly denied by authorities.

Police claimed that majority of those killed by the police in legitimate operations fired first at lawmen. —ALG, GMA News
