MIAA mulls implementing total ban vs. white metered taxis at NAIA

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is considering imposing a total ban on white metered taxis at all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, according to a report on News To Go on Tuesday.

MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said they will no longer allow white metered taxis at NAIA terminals once they receive another complaint about their service.

According to MIAA data, more than 300 complaints against white metered taxis were received by the office from July 2016 to date. These do not include complaints which were posted on social media and went viral.

Most of the complaints were about overpricing and non-use of the taxi meter.

Some taxi drivers, meanwhile, asked MIAA to just penalize erring taxi drivers, and not impose a total ban on taxis.

Monreal conducted an inspection of the taxi lanes at NAIA terminals on Monday.

MIAA said it is preparing for the influx of passengers at NAIA for the Holy Week break next week. —KG, GMA News
