Beginning April 15, BGC will use wheel clamps on illegally parked cars

Wheel clamps will be used on illegally parked cars anywhere around Bonifacio Global City (BGC) starting April 15 to "prevent congestion, enhance traffic flow, and support BGCs pedestrian priority program."

According to the statement released by BGC, Barangay Fort Bonifacio Ordinance 14-133 decrees that unattended vehicles will automatically be clamped until a tow truck arrives.

“More than anything, this is about road safety and traffic alleviation," said Jun Galvez, general manager of Bonifacio Estate Services Corp.

If a driver arrives before authorities clamp the car and he voluntarily moves the car, he will be asked to present his driver's license. He will then be issued a Unified Official Valuation Receipt (UOVR).

However, if the driver arrives after the car has been clamped but before it has been towed, the towing will be called off. The driver, however, will have to present his driver's license, be issued a UOVR, and pay the penalty of P1,000.

Residents and visitors were encouraged to use the more than 5,000 public parking slots available in BGC and find these spots using the new BGC app on both Android and iOS devices.

"We ask for everyone’s cooperation as we work closely with the local government of Taguig and adopt policies to improve the quality of life in BGC, for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Galvez said. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
