WILL JUNJUN RUN AGAINST HER?

Abby Binay to seek re-election with dad's 'full support'

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay on Wednesday said she will seek re-election in next year's midterm elections with the "full support" of her father, former vice president Jejomar Binay, Sr.

Asked about a possible Binay vs. Binay scenario in 2019, she admitted there are hints that her brother, former mayor Jejomar "Junjun" Binay, Jr., will go head-to-head with her in the approaching mayoralty race.

"May mga paramdam pero 'di ba hanggang sa hindi 'yan nag-fa-file (certificate of candidacy) sa October, 'di natin malalaman," she said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum. "But as far as I'm concerned, I'm running with the full support of my father."

The incumbent mayor, who is only on her first term, said she still has to see to the construction of a multibillion-dollar intra-city subway project that may break ground before the year ends, and plans a columbarium and a hospice for the city.

Pressed about what seemed to be "disarray" in the clan, she said: "We're a normal family, so sa lahat ho naman may hindi pagkakaintindihan... As far as I'm concerned I'm running for re-election with the full blessing and support of my father."

At present, the family is not joining forces with any party, the local chief executive said. Her father, she said, is busy teaching at the University of Makati, which launched a law school last year. —JST, GMA News
