Long lines form at Pasig, QC markets for NFA rice

Residents woke up early on Sunday to line up to buy cheap NFA rice at some markets in Metro Manila, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on Super Radyo dzBB.

At the Pasig Mega Market, the lines started forming at 4:30 a.m., hours before the 7 a.m. start of selling.

Only 600 sacks of NFA rice are delivered to rice vendors at Pasig Mega Market. These are sold out in three to four days, vendors said.

However, only the P32/kilo NFA rice is available at the Pasig Mega Market. Vendors said there has been no delivery of the P27/kilo NFA rice for the past two weeks.

The NFA rice are sold in 5-kg bags. Consumers can only buy 5 kilos each. They also have to pay P4 for the brown bags.

Meanwhile, at the Commonwealth Market in Quezon City, there were also lines of people awaiting their turn to buy NFA rice.

Some of those in line, among them senior citizens, have been waiting for four hours.

One grandmother said President Rodrigo Duterte should ensure prices of rice and other goods should be brought low.

"Pababain niya ang presyo ng bilihin. Aba, mamamatay na ang mga tao sa mahal ng presyo," she said.

Selling of the NFA rice at Commonwealth Market is also limited to 5 kilos per person.
