Cop in Caloocan shooting surrenders

The Navotas police officer who allegedly wounded seven people in a shooting incident in Caloocan City on Christmas Eve has surrendered to authorities.

Police Officer 1 Danilo Tiempo turned himself in to Caloocan police around 4 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report by Darlene Cay on Balitanghali.

Residents who witnessed the shooting in Kawal Street, Barangay 28 reportedly said the incident stemmed from a disagreement among a group of men playing a game of kara-krus during a wake.

One Roland Tiempo allegedly called on his brother, Danilo, who then fired away, injuring seven, including a 16-year-old. Six sustained minor injuries, while one is still under observation.

However, Danilo claimed the man identified as his brother was, in fact, his father.

Claiming he acted out of self-defense, he said he came to his father's rescue upon seeing him bloody after being charged by a group of "addicts" in their neighborhood.

One bullet cartridge recovered from the scene came from the officer's service firearm, while another came from his personal gun with an allegedly expired license. The latter was no longer recovered as it was allegedly taken from him.

The policeman may face charges for frustrated homicide and will stay in Caloocan police custody. —Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/KG, GMA News
