TRASH-LACION?

Nazarene devotees leave trail of trash along Traslacion route

Street sweepers and garbage trucks have taken to tailing the procession of the Black Nazarene, as devotees leave trash along the Traslacion route on Wednesday.

According to a report by Mark Salazar in Balitanghali, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel have early on started to clean up the trash left by the devotees before it piles up.

Among the items picked up by street sweepers are styrofoam containers, plastic bottles, and soiled diapers.

The report added that according to the garbage collectors, the truckloads of trash they would be able to collect would go straight to the landfill and would no longer be up for segregation.

Meanwhile, the police have attempted to implement the no littering policy, but due to the volume of people, it was hard to enforce.

They appealed to devotees to instill in themselves the discipline of managing their own trash in the next years. — Jessica Bartolome/MDM, GMA News
