Local gov't questions MMDA's ‘stay on your lane’ policy at QC Circle

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to enforce a "stay on your lane" policy at the Quezon City Memorial Circle starting next week, but the city government sees a challenge in executing such a scheme along the busy elliptical road.

According to a report on "24 Oras" by Susan Enriquez on Wednesday, the MMDA had a dry run on the policy which aims to keep motorists from swerving or making a sudden change of lane.

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago clarified that there are two types of yellow markings to follow.

"Dalawang klase 'yung isa solid yellow lines -- pag nasa loob ka ng solid yellow lang, 'wag kayong umalis. Just follow your lane and follow the curve,"  she said.

"Kapag napunta sa yellow lane markings na broken 'yung yellow lane, puwede kayong mag-change ng lane, pero one lane at a time. Huwag naman 'yung diagonal shift," she added.

QC Administrator Aldrin Cuña, however, pointed out on the report that vehicles will eventually turn right to make their respective exits.

"Iba lang yung condition dito sa Elliptical Road kasi kailangan mong lumiko pakanan sa mga radial roads niya palabas ng Elliptical Road. Challenge 'yun sa MMDA para maisagawa nila 'yung gusto nilang polisiya na 'stay on your lane'," he said.

Motorists who violate the yellow lane policy would be fined P1,000.

The MMDA will also be using no-contact apprehension, which means violators will be spotted through the use of CCTV. —Margaret Claire Layug/ LDF, GMA News
