In a press statement, the Department of Transportation said that at about 8:30 a.m., Chinese woman Jiale Zhang, 23, a student residing in Mandaluyong City, threw a cup of 'taho' to Police Officer 1 William Cristobal who stopped her from entering the station.

MRT authorities said Zhang entered the baggage inspection area, but security personnel asked her to consume first the taho in her bag before she would be allowed in. But she refused to do so.

Security personnel called PO1 Cristobal to explain to the student the policy on liquid substances inside the station. In a fit of anger, Zhang splashed the cup of taho at the officer.

Authorities immediately escorted Zhang to the Shaw Boulevard Police Station.

Complainant PO1 Cristobal and the suspect were turned over to the Mandaluyong City Police Community Precinct 5 for investigation and proper disposition.

In the statement, the DOTr said "We would like to stress that tighter security measures being implemented inside our trains and stations means no harm to our passengers. We are being cautious since we put in our topmost priorities the safety and security of our passengers and personnel following attacks in Mindanao.

"Moreover, it should also be noted that even before the recent ban of bottled water, drinks and liquids, consumption of unsealed food and drinks are prohibited inside trains and stations as this can cause inconvenience, accident and delay to our operations." —with Amita Legaspi/LBG, GMA News
