Rallyists flock to EDSA for 33rd People Power anniversary


Thousands of rallyists amassed at the EDSA Shrine and the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Saturday to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the non-violent and so-called bloodless People Power revolution, according to the Philippine National Police.

Radio dzBB's Luisito Santos quoted the Mandaluyong police as estimating the crowd at the EDSA Shrine to number around 3,000.

Some of the political figures spotted at the demonstration at EDSA Shrine were former Education Secretary Armin Luistro, former Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano and activist Mae "Juana Change" Paner, a radio dzBB report said.

Supporters who started to march from the EDSA shrine towards the People Power Shrine outside Camp Aguinaldo were seen being monitored by a myriad of police officers who were also manning the traffic.

Latest crowd estimate from the PNP placed the number of rallyists at the EDSA Shrine at around 1,300 shortly before 5  p.m.

The 1986 People Power revolution was a massive, bloodless movement which marked the end of a the dictatorial regime of former President Ferdinant Marcos. — MDM, GMA News
