School kids in areas affected by water shortage may forego school uniforms —DepEd

Students in areas affected by lengthy water interruptions will be allowed to wear casual clothes in lieu of their school uniforms, according to the Department of Education on Wednesday.

According to Saleema Refran's report in GMA's 24 Oras, the adjustment in the public school rules, effective on Thursday, was made in consideration of the water interruptions which disrupted the normal laundry routines of households.

"We will be very flexible. Ang pinaka-priority natin ay ma-maintain natin na ang mga bata at guro ay papasok," DepEd spokesperson Undersecretary Analyn Sevilla said.

The private schools may also implement the same, depending on their discretion.

Maintenance of comfort rooms in some schools are also affected by the water supply interruptions.

"Our schools are the second home of our children. Iresolba n'yo ang isyu sa Manila Water para hindi naman maapektuhan ang aming operasyon," DepEd Mandaluyong Schools Division Officer-in-Charge Nerissa Losaria said.

The DepEd, however, assured that classes will not be suspended due to the water crisis.

"Hindi po kasi solusyon na 'wag papasukin ang mga bata sa eskuwelahan dahil kailangan nilang habulin 'yung kanilang minimum contact time at magke-create tayo ng another problem," Sevilla said. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
