No motives established yet as probe ongoing on Cebu drug lord slay

Investigation is still ongoing as regards the killing of self-confessed Cebu drug lord Franz Sabalones.

Asked if authorities already established the motive of the killing or if there are already suspects on the incident, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) spokesperson Police Captain Rohaina Asalan told GMA News Online that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU's) probe is still ongoing.

"O going investigation po ang CIDU," Asalan said in a text message.

In a separate text message, QCPD chief Police Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel Jr. said there is "nothing significant yet" in the investigation.

Sabalones was shot in the head on Thursday early morning at the corner of Scout Borromeo and Mother Ignacia in Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City.

Sabalones died on the spot.

In 2016, Sabalones surrendered and admitted that he was a drug lord in Region 7, saying that he had assumed control of Cebu’s drug trade from drug kingpin Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz, who was killed during a reported encounter with authorities.

According to the QCPD, Sabalones' cell phones will be submitted to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group for digital forensic examination.

Authorities have said they are not discounting the possibility that his killing was related to his alleged involvement to illegal drugs. — RSJ, GMA News
