17 nabbed for vote buying in Muntinlupa

Seventeen individuals involved in alleged vote buying operations were arrested in Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City on Saturday.

Police reportedly seized from the suspects several envelopes containing sample ballots, lists of candidates, and cash ranging from P300 to P500.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar said the operation was conducted after the police received a tip from a concerned citizen.

Six of the suspects arrested were allegedly involved in vote buying, while the rest were allegedly accepting money in exchange for their votes.

"Dahil nagbigay po ng direktiba ang ating chief PNP at dahil dito po sa pag-create nga ng task force kontra-bayad, siguradong ang lahat ng ating mga kapulisan sa Metro Manila ay binigyan ko ng direktiba na magsagawa ng police action against vote buying at marami pong impormasyon ang natatanggap," Eleazar said.

"Nagkataon na itong impormasyon galing sa Muntinlupa, kanina...Naaresto sa akto itong anim na involved sa vote buying at labing isa sa vote selling," he added. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
