Alleged vote buyer nabbed in Malabon


Authorities arrested on Friday night a man allegedly buying votes in Malabon City.

Nabbed was Joel Adora, 48, a resident of Barangay Concepcion, Malabon City.

According to Malabon Police, barangay tanods were on routine patrol at around 9:30 p.m. when they were informed by a concerned citizen that the suspect was involved in vote buying.

The tanods were about to approach the suspect when they saw him accepting a bundle of envelopes with documents from an unidentified person aboard a Toyota Vios.

The vehicle sped away and almost hit the tanods as they approached.

The suspect was confirmed to be in possession of the said items and was put under arrest.

Recovered from the suspect were 17 small white envelopes each containing P300, 15 unsigned acknowledgment receipts with the name Konsehal Mac Tiangco, and a list of voters and beneficiaries.

The Northern Police District and the Commission on Elections urged the public to vote wisely on Monday, May 13.

They also said the public may report any illegal activities to the PNP hotlines such as: Isumbong Mo Kay Oca 09178475757 and I-Send Mo Sa Team NCRPO: 09158888181 (Globe) and 09999018181 (Smart). —KG, GMA News
